Ganondorf's New Groove

Okay guys, here’s my big plan for the Ganondorf death thing. It’s all under the cut.

On the fourteenth, Ganondorf will be returned to Luceti after he was immediately kidnapped upon his return from the draft. Although they returned him in more or less the way they found him, their experiments on him were humiliating and he was punished severely for an escape attempt he made during this time. He’ll spend a short time brooding at his house by the lake before coming up with a method of revenge. If he can’t pay back the Malnosso, then he can ruin their research by robbing them of their favorite lab rats for one week. He’ll simply find a way to wipe out all of Luceti.

Luceti is full of powerful folk though, so he can’t just go into town and kill people left and right, since that would work for all of five minutes. So rather than that, he’ll be preparing some distractions:

  • Monster-animals - Ganondorf is short on monsters to do his bidding, so he’ll have to settle for magiking up some animals. He’ll be going for animals that are already dangerous (snakes, wolves, bears, rams, cougars, spiders, coyotes, bucks, etc) and making them bigger, stronger, more durable, and deadlier. In typical Zelda style, they are color coded for your convenience (in effect being either entirely red or blue)! Red colored animals aren’t much stronger than they are ordinarily, but blue-colored ones are dangerous enough to be compared to the kind of generic monsters you get towards the end of RPGs. Killing them is the easiest way to get rid of them, but detaining them will work too, as they will revert to normal when Ganon is killed or if your character has some kind of magic to fix them. If your character has a cool pet that you’d like to offer up for this, lemme know and I can include them too. Savage Pokemon, anyone? (Just remember, animals and pets don’t come back, so it’s good to keep that in mind.)
  • Stalfos-Animals - Similar to the above, only these animals will be the animated bones of dead animals. They can be sort of hodge podged and reorganized into more humanoid shapes if you fancy.
  • Brainwashed Minions - If your character is easily mind controlled, weak-minded, or has inclinations to evil? Then we can work out something to have them be controlled by Ganondorf to attack other villagers. Like with the animals, they can either be killed or detained. If you want to do that, let me know and we can work out the details, then you can work things out with your CR in turn. He already has Richard Sharpe as a loyal henchman and given their history, Sharpe is someone that may be commanding some of the monsters as well as brainwashed minions. There will be a thread on the post for discussing that too.

In the meantime, Ganondorf will be erecting a tower of stone via magic in the center of the forest. While he’s up there, he’ll be concentrating his efforts to make his magic stronger in the hopes of being able to come up with something that will wipe everyone out at once. Naturally, he won’t even get close, because someone will find him, scale his tower filled with with the above homemade monsters, and go beat him the hell up. Probably with some kind of heroic speech.

In any case, Ganondorf is a pretty powerful guy, what with him being end boss material and wielding godlike power. He’s certainly not the toughest guy in Luceti though. So if you’re playing a character that’s a lot more powerful than him, it might be best to have them deal with the other problems he’ll be leaving around Luceti, otherwise it will make for a boring fight if Ganondorf gets curb stomped by one person. Personally, I think the best fights are the ones where the heroes have to struggle to win, because it makes for a much more powerful victory to narrowly beat the bad guy by the very skin of your teeth. That’s the kind of scenario I’m hoping to provide. So if that’s your cup of tea, then please read on!

I’m going to divide this up into three stages of battle for characters who will be able to fight Ganondorf and beat him. After each stage, he’ll make his escape and move on, where some more people will be able to beat up on him some more, up until his last form.

    First Stage - Magician - 3 combatants
Location: On top of Ganon’s Tower (center of the forest)
Ganon’s preferred tactic is slinging around magic in battle against common foes who he doesn’t waste his time drawing his sword for. In canon we usually just see him taking on one person because that’s the nature of the series. But for examples of this kind of battle, here’s some videos:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHn7eli6uic
    http://youtu.be/-yh1g9B_eBY?t=1m55s
http://youtu.be/DhIqGv_1z5I?t=4m34s (here he’s possessing Zelda, but same deal)

In these types of battles, he floats around using levitation and makes himself a moving target that’s difficult to hit. He protects himself with a magical barrier that electrocutes anyone who touches him, so hitting him with a sword is risky, since it does more damage to the attacker than to him. Primarily he prefers to use electric-based attacks to deal damage, though he is capable of throwing around fire as well. In-game the way to defeat him is to turn his own magic against him, which will disrupt his electrical shield and make him vulnerable to attack. Usually only a divine weapon can accomplish this, but a straight out magical duel could be an option too.

    --
After taking a lot of damage, he’ll use a spell to teleport himself away, collapsing his tower at the same time and thus forcing those inside to make an escape. How dramatic you want this to be is up to you. (So if you play a character who could simply fly away, there could be a barrier erected to force them to flee the tower on foot, if that’s what you want to play.)

    Second Stage - Monster - 3 combatants
    Location: In the farmlands
Rather than his Twilight boar form, Ganondorf will be taking on the form of the great beast seen in the end of Ocarina of Time (and thus more similar to his pig Ganon forms from the rest of the series). He looks like this, a twenty foot tall monstrosity of incredible strength. Here he’ll be relying on primarily brute strength, as this form is fueled by rage rather than reason. Rather than his tail being his weak point, he’ll maintain the wound in his chest, a strangely glowing scar from when he was impaled by the Sage’s Sword.

At this stage of the fight, any kind of fighters can do, though they’ll either need to be swift enough to dodge his lethal blows or strong enough to recover from them.

    --
After this battle, Ganondorf will revert to his normal form. His horse will rescue him and carry him to safety before he can be finished off. He’ll set the fields on fire as he escapes, providing a distraction for the good minded heroes who feel it might be a good idea to prevent it from spreading and hurting the farm animals.

Third Stage - Dueling 1 or 2 combatants
    Location: In the mountains
By this point, Ganondorf will have sapped the majority of his magic and while his Triforce of Power will leave him strong enough to sustain a lot of blows and still keep on fighting, even if he won’t be throwing around magical spells anymore. He’s on his last leg at this point and just needs finished off. A sufficiently magical weapon should work here, though other options could work too. In Twilight Princess, his manner of fighting is pretty slow and methodical, but in Wind Waker it’s quicker and much more fierce. Depending on who he ends up fighting, I’ll pick a style that makes the battle more interesting.

I’m mainly interested in one combatant for him to duel with who would, of course, be wielding a sword. Two combatants could be cool if it’s two players wanting to team up, with one of them playing a support role.

These are battles plotted out for Ganondorf being defeated in three stages. If you want to battle Ganondorf before or in between any of these stages, we can work something out, just as long as you’re cool with it being a stalemate or your character getting defeated. If you want him to kill your character, we can do that as well. If that’s what you’re keen for, just comment and we can talk out some kind of plan.

For picking who will do what, I’ll be using RNG. But since some of these will be four-people threads, I really urge you to not sign up if you don’t think you can at least manage 1-2 tags a day. It would be unfair to hold up everyone involved if you’re going to be too busy to tag in on your turns.

Also! If anyone has any kind of special items that would boost Ganondorf’s power temporarily, it’d be awesome to plot him stealing it. They’d be able to reclaim it after he’s dead, but it would allow for more epic battles and letting him get away with a bit more. So if you wanna toss something like that in, let me know and we’ll work it in.

As said before, this plot will end with Ganon dying and he will not come back, due to being dropped. So this as close to perma-death as we get without involving the third party being involved.

For those not participating in the plot, the monsters will mostly be outside the village. Some may go inside and cause trouble, but by and large they’ll be in other places trying to pick off people who are alone. In which case, people can go on about their normal business without looking out of place for not responding to the big crisis. In game time, it’ll probably last no longer than two hours (though he will take longer beforehand getting prepared).

I will post a log for this on the 13th, though it will take place on the 14th. Below I have some sub-threads for signing up for each phase and volunteering characters or pets to be possessed. Otherwise we can use the rest of the post to plot amongst each other.
