This is Pao-Lin's reaction in my head to this plot.
So, today's April 4, which means Pao-Lin's just had a birthday (in my headcanon, at least...I DARE YOU TO JOSS ME ON THIS, SUNRISE) and she's sixteen years old now. Happy Sweet Sixteen, Dragon Kid!
This is, of course, the perfect opportunity to announce to y'all that she's gonna die in about a month. :|b
THE SHORT OF IT: As the result of some mallygooshing that will change her memories and personality, Pao-Lin will end up attacking Kotetsu (and possibly Barnaby). Kazooie will step in to stop her, and both her and Pao-Lin will end up dying in the ensuing fight.
THE LONG OF IT: End-of-series T&B spoilers to follow; blame the T&B anonmeme and Kill Bill for this mess.
Towards the end of April or during the first half of May (depends on a lot of different issues), Pao-Lin will be quietly kidnapped by the Malnosso droids for some period of time. When she returns, she'll be visibly aged up, toting a wickedly sharp katana (from Ivan's Hero suit, no less), and remembering nothing of her time in Luceti.
Instead, as far as she knows, she just woke up from a coma she's been in for the past five years, thanks to remembering a Bad End to the Maverick & Rotwang plot from the end of the series in which the rest of the Heroes were killed in a disastrous fight against the H-01 androids. As the sole survivor, Pao-Lin has resolved to avenge her fallen friends by killing Maverick and Rotwang. Of course, since neither Maverick nor Rotwang are in Luceti, there has to be a little twist, otherwise what would be the point of the plot?
The twist is that the H-01 androids that Pao-Lin remembers attacking and killing her Hero friends actually looked like the Heroes. People who've watched T&B may remember Rotwang talking about replacing the Heroes with his androids. Welp, in Pao-Lin's new memories, Rotwang actually managed to make amazingly lifelike android replicas of the Heroes, complete with personality quirks, NEXT powers, and some measure of fake human biology (they'll bleed if you cut them, etc.). This sort of psychological warfare is at least part of why all the Heroes were taken down. So if this new Pao-Lin sees any of her Hero pals wandering around Luceti? She's going after them with the intent to kill. Disable. Murder. Whatever. There's an alternative motivation to this other than just outright revenge on her friends' killers, too -- Maverick's promised certain rewards for each Herobot she destroys. Of course, you know, this is Maverick, so the guy's probably lying through his teeth or has otherwise rigged the game, but at this point Pao-Lin will take what she can get.
There'll be two parts to this plot, ICly happening within the course of a single day, but the part that most of y'all will be concerned with is an action post upon Pao-Lin's return where characters can react to Pao-Lin 2.0 (who'll be a lot grimmer and no-nonsense than usual, to say nothing of not remembering who any of her Luceti friends are).
So, um. Yeah. This isn't really a sandboxy call-to-action plot or anything, just more of a PSA to anyone whose characters have CR with Pao-Lin (and Kazooie). Once she gets rezzed from her death, she'll be extremely reclusive and hard to reach for a time, though she'll eventually make a journal post announcing her return and apologizing for her mallynapped behavior. Initially, the only ones who will know that she actually died will be Kazooie(?) and possibly Kotetsu and Barnaby if they were around/conscious to see it happen.
And to end on a happier note, there are plans for a joint birthday celebration hosted by her and Link later this month after the AU shenanigans are over, since their birthdays are so close. :3c
