A whole lot of Zombie draft cure planning.
Hey guys, Jon here.
Belle posted earlier a thread directed towards all medics/healers as a unified effort to work on a cure and prevent the spread of the disease. Since then, her, I, and a bunch of other people have come together to work on a sort of game plan for synthesizing the cure for the disease. I'd love for as many people to get in on this as possible, especially if that person plans on being infected, or is a medic working to combat the cure.
Update: All plot up until and including the proto-cure has been approved, however some special "conditions" will need to be met in order for the true cure to be made. We don't know what those conditions are yet, everything after the proto-cure will remain a lose skeleton structure until we have that information.
Once the infection begins on the 26th two teams will be organized. One team, presently composed of Daisy-023, Alia Shepard, Mordin Solus and Luke Skywalker will be clearing out and locking down the hospital. Mordin will be using the materials within to begin working on the cure. A second team (with no members as of writing) will work on securing the barracks to serve as a secondary base, should the hospital fall.
By the 28th, Mordin will have synthesized a vaccine that will slow the spread of the infection. It will be unable to outright prevent it, so precautions should still be taken. It will also have no effect on people already zombified, though those who are simply infected should be able to keep their sanity for at least a little while longer. This vaccine will be distributed during the evacuation, so even those going home have some medicine to make sure the disease does not spread to Luceti.
By the 29th a proto-cure will by created. This is directed at those already infected, and is delivered by a shot to the back of the skull. It will return higher cognitive function to the brain, but will not reverse the zombification process. As such, those treated with the proto-cure will be human brains trapped in a zombie body. This may be helpful, since the increased strength and speed, plus immunity to further infection will be invaluable on the battlefield, at least until the power cap comes into effect.
*With this, Mordin and company will be presented with a moral dilemma. Do they distribute the proto-cure as the cure, and use the new half-zombie allies in holding back the horde, or do they pour all of their effort into creating a true cure? This is going to be an active discussion with those within the hospital, including those subjects within who are already treated with the proto-cure (which we already have two volunteers, and would love to have more!) Anyone infected who would like to take the proto-cure are more than welcome to, but should be mentally fortified enough to handle the nightmare fuel of being stuck in a zombified state.
This same day, when news breaks of the Lone Survivor, volunteers from both the Hospital and Barracks teams will form a party in order to secure him and return him to the hospital (or barracks if the hospital is overrun). From there, the Lone Survivor will be treated as if he were a zombie, since it seems he may be the source of the outbreak.
On the 30th, Mordin (and any doctors who are helping him at this point) will work to separate antibodies from the survivor's blood. Should he also be the source, extra work will have to be taken in order to remove any of the disease-spreading pathogens. Once combined with the proto-cure, and given extra work, a full cure should be able to be processed. Then, should the survivor prove to be the source of the disease, he will be executed to prevent further spreading.
The full cure will then be presented on the 31st, just before the entire village is blown to hell. Then we can all go home happy, safe, and a bit more mentally disturbed.
For those of you who are friends with me on Plurk, I also have a discussion thread going on there right now. If you're not, I'd love you if you added me. We'd love to have more input on all this and make it work for everyone's plans.

Barracks Medical Team
It'll keep tainted blood from getting on uninfected people, work as a means of quarantine, and give Mordin and co room to focus on just the cure.

I... may be considering having him get infected after the completion of the proto-cure too. Also, adding you on plurk, just keep an eye open for Mad_Alric!
no subject
I'll put him on both lists. Right now I'm using the infected list for those who are going to be on lockdown within the hospital. But of course, anyone who wants it can have it distributed to them!
It'd be a good idea to have a crate of the proto-cure be delivered to the barracks, too, in case an infected pops up there.
no subject
And I think I'm gonna pass on getting him infected and half-cured after all. Still have a lot on my plate over the next few days, so one less plot point to worry about is probably for the best.

Her other spell that she will eventually start attempting (once its clear the others aren't very effective), resurrection, will at first seem "as though it's succeeded but the virus has just gone into remission for another 12 hours. Ultimately, the infection is reset. This CAN help extend someone's chances to last longer until a real cure is made, but it also has the possibility of being less and less effective every time."
So there's some room to test and play around with that. I think she'd realize that it's not a guaranteed cure-all and that the others should continue to look for a more permanent cure in the meanwhile, but if people wanted to be eventually cured and not killed by the deadline there's an option to play with there before the power cap comes into play.
That said I'm not certain where to put her exclusively, since she'll probably at first be on the go, but I'm guessing she'd eventually end up being asked to hang around the barracks or hospital before the evac goes out?

Of course, she is also free to roam wherever she feels needed at the time!

BUT SHE UNDERSTANDS if she has to be stopped.

He also has some experience with some medical related stuff and can explain some of how he is likely staving it off to help them with their research.
Since the power cap will turn off what is keeping it at bay, my plan is to have him escape once symptoms do start showing so he doesn't infect the medical folks.

Volunteering Syre here has another for the Hospital C+F Team and the Hospital Cure Team until her departure on the night of the 29th (as previously mentioned on the draft post itself).
She will be more than willing to deal with any of the really dirty work, research-wise, and will be leaving a copy of all of her notes when she heads out to be evac'd; she is also proficient with a bladed weapon, so in the event of having to decapitate zombified assailants at the hospital, she'll be more than ready to help defend if need be.

Things have gotten incredibly hectic for my life as of late, on top of stupid internet problems, so I'm not sending Shepard into the draft. Sorry, guys. Maybe next time.

Say he does prove to be a "source of disease" instead of just somebody with the right antibodies or whatever. Why kill him instead of also-vaccinate-him?
no subject
Also, with time constraints, it's probable that we won't have time to research and produce a second cure that would wipe out whatever is producing the disease inside him. The Malnosso will likely require that the initial threat be neutralized as one of their "conditions" to not nuking the village, as well. Since we can't destroy the source through medicine, we'll have to kill the host.
This is all Mordin's logic, anyway. Everyone is allowed to plead their case, and the killing will likely fall on a vote if too many people oppose it.
no subject
One argument to be made then is that if one vaccinates everyone else (eventually, granted), that his death is also unnecessary. If we end up with a cure, the enclosure does not explode - hopefully - and the resources to produce enough of it for everyone should no longer be an issue, with the attack-and-disease combo threat over.
Maybe we don't know this yet: is the survivor someone who lives in Vaskoth?
There's also the implication that with the cure, they will (potentially) just be producing a number of other Patient Zeros: immune but carriers.
