Book Club Info Dump

Hey Luceti! So, as some of you might remember, a few months ago I had the idea of Belle starting a Book Club in Luceti. As it turns out, there is already one in existence, it’s just been overlooked. But that is changing now because Helios has given Belle and Saori permission to take over and help maintain it.

So the basic idea is that, IC-ly, the Club will meet bi-weekly at the Library. OOC-ly these meetings will likely happen monthly to give people a chance to back-tag to their hearts content. At the first meeting the Club will have their first book assigned, which will be chosen at random. I’ll have a section in the comments for people to suggest books for the Club to read. Just make sure the books are either really well known or easily researched so no one feels compelled to actually read for their characters unless...they just want to.

Once a book is assigned the Club members have two weeks to read and finish it. During the meeting that follows they will have group discussion and talk about the book, what they liked or didn’t like, favorite parts, etc. These meetings will likely be hand-waved for the most part because again, we don’t expect muns to be responsible for actually reading these books.

And then the third meeting will be a little different. Helios gave Belle a really interesting idea in their thread that we are taking and running with. And that idea is using the Battle Dome technology to recreate locations and scenes from the books they read. Let’s say they’ve just finished reading Romeo & Juliet and the scene they vote to re-create is the balcony scene. They will then use the Battle Dome simulations to simulate the scene and location as they imagine it using the book as a guide. Scenes will be decided on based on vote, although if a tie happens they might sometimes recreate two scenes. Actors/actresses will be chosen based on who volunteers.

And after that the schedule pretty much repeats itself. Without all the tl;dr it’ll look something like this:

1st meeting: assign the book.

2nd meeting: discuss the book.

3rd: re-create scene(s) chosen.

Repeat.

Okay, now that that’s all out of the way, I would like to use this post as a sign-up post to get a feel for how many people are interested. There is a section in the comments for this so just sign-up with your character’s name. This is in no way mandatory and we won’t kick you out of the log if you don’t, but for the sake of organization please do!

There will be a log going up sometime this week so if you want to participate, keep an eye out!

Loki's definitely interested.

Well, unless he decides to not be because he's being all shitty about Thor. Because he's so mature. /)_(\

Count in Ami! I know the bookclub thing comes up every so often, so if I've already talked to you about it, just treat this as the official signup from her? XD

Daria blames Quinn saying she should get out more. At least a book club seems kind of interesting.

Bilbo has quite a library at home and wouldn't mind being involved. He's a bit new to have heard of it, but I'm sure that can be taken care of as IC announcements and such are made.

oh bb. But Loki didn't just have to have a melodramatic mediation run by Luke Skywalker with you.

In which he agreed to pretend you no longer exist in his world.

THOUGH I GUESS WE COULD DO THAT IF YOU WANT. XD

[personal profile] somethingtoavenge 2013-01-13 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
XD

Okay, that is more awkward.

I think Phil would be more disturbed if Loki pretended he didn't exist.

Suuuuuuuper late on this, but Erza would definitely be up for it - she was in one of the older book clubs anyways, and given how absurdly enthusiastic she is for any acting opportunities, the third part of the schedule is an added bonus!

Shakespeare is always safe.

I suggest Good Omens at some point because everyone surely needs a pick-me-up. ;)

HAHAHAHA OH GOD. Make them read Under the Dome by Stephen King. /cruel

Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. Sadly, without Muppets, but still an entertaining adventure. Oooor The Princess Bride by William Goldman S. Morgenstern.

I would suggest the Hobbit but Bilbo might find that awkward.

The Wizard of Oz and The Once and Future King both sound appropriate as well.
